Standard light source, also known as "international candle".
Standard illuminant, also known as "international candlepower," refers to the light source defined by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) for standardizing color measurement. Different lighting sources have different effects on color vision. Under darkroom red light illumination, people only perceive brightness and darkness without distinguishing colors; under sodium lamp illumination, the colors people see are distorted. The original standard used a candle placed at a certain distance (d) from a screen (s). The incident light, referred to as illuminance E on the screen, was measured in foot-candles, resulting in the formula F = s/d0 foot-candles.
